Hāwera is a city on the North Island of New Zealand with a population of 10,150 and is part of the South Taranaki District Council. The origins of the town can be found in a government military base that was established in 1866.
Hāwera is a small town located on Highway 3 and is a 90-minute drive to New Plymouth in the north and a 60-minute drive to Whanganui in the south. The main railway line was established in 1881. Passenger services were discontinued in the mid-1970s and only freight is transported now.
