McDonald Real Estate was founded in 1912 by Michael McDonald Sr. (otherwise known as Mick). Mick immigrated from Ireland to New Zealand in 1899. Mick began negotiating livestock and butterfat sales and traded land deals.
Mick McDonald was a prolific journal keeper and his journals have offered an exciting insight into the early pioneer days in Taranaki. These included his dealings and some land sales. Land sold for £10.00 per acre back in those days! This would equate to around $3,000 an acre in today’s money and a bargain at that.
Mick McDonald started his business in 1918 and was located on Broadway, Stratford. The company performed well for many years, and Mick McDonald ran lots of sales campaigns in the local papers. The Great Depression of the 1930s hit lots of people hard and nearly bankrupted the company.
Mick managed the company by himself until he enlisted his son Tom in 1946 to help out. Together, they would continue to do real estate as a father-son team. Mick subsequently retired and unfortunately died in the early 1960s. Tom ran the company himself for several years and then in the late 1960s, started a partnership with Joe Witton.
The company has proven to be a success, raising its market share to 75-80% in Taranaki and during that time Tom was joined by his two sons, Peter and Mike. At that time they opened offices in Eltham and Inglewood.
The success of the company was quickly due in part to an expansion to the rural markets. With a strong branding and marketing campaign, McDonald’s quickly became a powerful figurehead in Taranaki and adopted a quirky website eieio.co.nz after the old Mcdonald’s farm song.
In 1999, McDonald’s opened an office in Waitara, with Hawera following in 2000 and in 2002 McDonald real estate Oakura opened and Bell Block in 2005. They now serve the whole Taranaki region.
Over the past century, McDonald’s has maintained relationships and went from strength to strength.
With a dedicated commercial & industrial branch, McDonald Real Estate is the dominant provider of leasing and sales in the area and McDonald property management is also available. They are the largest local property company in Taranaki and don’t lock landlords into long-term contracts.
They also offer free rental appraisals and will find the best property management plan for you. McDonald real estate New Plymouth rentals are one of their busiest offices due to the population growth in the city.
The company has offices in Stratford, New Plymouth, Oakura, Waitara, Inglewood, Eltham, Opunake and Hawera. They also have a strong presence in all of the smaller Taranaki towns, such as Okato, Manaia, Urenui, Waverley and Patea.
Competition is always strong and other operators include Bayleys Real Estate, Tall Poppy Real Estate, Homes co nz and Property Brokers New Plymouth.
For real estate agents looking for accelerating careers in real estate McDonald’s might be just the place to start. The company motto is:
